How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join two pieces together of wood. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. If your wood is straight and flat, this method will work well. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will help ensure that the joint won't split later.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue on both sides of the wooden plank. Allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes before you attach the pieces.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. After the glue has dried properly, clamp the pieces together to make sure they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

Allow enough space between pieces so you can turn them inside out.
